First Brazilian?
So you booked your first Brazilian wax. It's kind of a big deal, right? We think so, too! Now what comes next upon scheduling that appointment—one big swell of anxiety that stems from the unknown? Nope. Read on as we walk you through what to do before and after your wax as well as any questions you may have, we have them answered here.
What To Do Before a Brazilian Wax
Prepare for your Brazilian wax with these few super-simple guidelines.
-
Grow your hair to 1/4 inch.
-
It's good to shower the day of your wax, however we highly recommend you to exfoliate and lightly moisturize the day BEFORE your wax, NOT the day of!
-
You should try to avoid booking your appointment when you have your menstruation (period). You are a little more sensitive to discomfort during this time. However, if you booked your appointment and you happen to get your menstruation, you can still keep your appointment as long as you wear a tampon.
-
Take Advil a half hour pre-appointment if you have concerns about any pain.
-
But skip the wine and coffee pre-wax (sorry). Imbibing can cause water retention, which leaves skin more sensitive.
Waxing aftercare instructions are as pertinent as pre-wax prep. We’ve listed our top six tips here..

-
Wear loose clothing so there’s no rubbing and your skin is able to breathe.
-
Don’t exfoliate or touch the newly waxed area—your skin will appreciate it, plus it’ll help prevent ingrown hair and bumps.
-
Avoid the following for 24 hours: hot showers, baths, pools, saunas, sex, workouts.
-
Use our Ingrown Hair Serum by Perfect Spotlight after showering weekly. This aftercare solution helps reduce irritation and prevent ingrown hairs in between waxing treatments.
-
Don't shave. It takes a few wax appointments for hair to grow in the same cycle. Shaving means starting over. (Plus, waxing thins out the hair follicle. You’ll notice your hair regrowth will be much slower. Not so with shaving, when you notice stubble, what, the very next day?)

Book your next wax—we know you’re going to toss your razor after your first Brazilian wax

Does a Brazilian or Bikini Wax hurt?

-
Utter honesty here: A Brazilian wax may hurt, or it may not. It really hinders upon your pain threshold. But what we can share with certainty is the more times you wax, the less it hurts.

Can I use a numbing cream before I wax?

-
We would rather you didn't. Numbing creams can interfere with the application of our wax or, in certain situations, cause allergic reactions.

Will I be uncomfortable after my Brazilian or Bikini Waxing?

-
For those of you who are getting a Brazilian or Bikini Wax for the first time, we would say you might have some sensitivity. The more coarse the hair, the more sensitive the skin, the more sensitivity you will feel during and after the wax. Some first-time clients are uncomfortable for an hour or so and others feel a little bit sore for a day or two. It is important to wear loose, comfortable pants. NO tight jeans or pants.

How long after shaving should I wait to get a wax?

-
At least 3-4 weeks. We need a good 1/4 of an inch of hair growth for you to be happy with your results.

How long does a Brazilian/Bikini Wax last?

-
It really depends. Hair grows at different cycles depending on the person. You will notice that after a few Brazilian, and other bikini waxes that your hair will start to grow in much slower and finer. Don’t have high expectations of extremely smooth skin after your first wax. This comes with time and the patience of growing all of your hair out at the same time.

Can I get a Brazilian/Bikini Wax while pregnant?

-
Yes, but please clear this with your doctor. Just like waxing when you are menstruating, pregnancy can leave you more sensitive during and after your wax. Your nerves are already a little on edge and there is a lot going on in that area.

Can I go tanning before or after a Brazilian/Bikini Wax?

-
We don't EVER recommend tanning beds. However, we suggest clients to wait 2-3 days after waxing for any self-tanning or air brush tanning. DO NOT Tan 24 hours prior to your appointment.

Do you wax all genders?

-
ALL are Welcome at LMLA :)

When can't I get waxed?

-
We cannot wax you if you fall under any of the following categories:
1.You are using any Retinol products i.e. Retin A, Renova, etc. on your bikini line or brow area.
2.You are taking Accutane or other strong medications for acne.
3.You have any kind of sunburn, laser burn, pustules, or breakouts on the area to be waxed.
We ask that you discreetly disclose any and all medical conditions you have before we wax you, especially any STDs. Also, please, please freshen up before your appointment. We like to run a clean ship!

When should I get my first ever wax?

-
We would not recommend getting your first wax a couple of days before a big event such as a wedding, birth, vacation etc. Plan ahead a try to get waxed a few times so that the first wax, which may be the more uncomfortable one, is out the way. We want you to feel comfortable, with the best results for your special event.
